On Monday, June 7, several hundred people came out to the Prince Kuhio Plaza shopping center
in Hilo, to witness the Venus transit of 2004. Although Hawaii was not in the window of oppor-
tunity to directly view the event, The University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy hosted a
remote webcast in front of Sears. Several computers and a large screen television supplied by
Sears were used to share the passage of the planet Venus in front of the disk of the sun, an
event last seen 122 years ago. Please visit http://astroday.net/VenusTransit.html
